FIRST: IS THE WALL BUILT?

This guide covers running the wall from your phone. It assumes the video wall is already assembled, standing, powered, and daisy-chained. If you have not built it yet, start with the assembly guide, then come back here.

BEFORE YOU START

How your displays work

Your LitUp booth kit displays are driven by NovaStar Taurus controllers and run through the free ViPlex Handy phone app. This manual shows you how to connect to a display, link several posters into one big display, load and publish content, switch between saved content, and set the brightness. You never program the controller box directly. You send everything to it from your phone.

Four posters at 344 x 1032 line up to exactly 1376 x 1032, the same size as the video wall. When posters are linked, the software fits your content across all four automatically, so one picture can run across the whole row.

What you need

An iPhone or Android phone.
The free ViPlex Handy app by NovaStar, from the App Store or Google Play.
The Wi-Fi label on the back of each display. The network name starts with AP, and there is a password.

HELPFUL TIP

Only one phone can connect to a display's Wi-Fi at a time. After you join a display's AP network, turn Auto-Join OFF for it in your phone settings so your phone does not silently hold the connection. If you cannot see a poster's Wi-Fi, another phone is probably still connected to it.

STEP BY STEP

1Connect to a display

Do this at the start of every session. It is the same for a poster, the video wall, or the reception desk.

WRITE IT DOWN

The app will prompt you to change this password the first time you connect. If you change it, write the new password down and keep it somewhere safe. Recovering a lost password on a display is not a simple process, so do not lose it.

Join the display's Wi-Fi

On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings. Find the label on the back of the display and connect to its network (the name starts with AP, for example AP00001036). The default password is SN2008@+. It will show No Internet Connection, which is normal. You are joining the display's own signal, not the internet.

Open ViPlex Handy

Open the ViPlex Handy app. If you do not have it yet, download it from the App Store or Google Play.

Connect to the display

On the Devices screen, find the display (listed as Taurus plus its number, with its model and pixel size) and tap it to connect. A blue checkmark and the name at the top of the screen confirm you are connected. If it asks for a password, enter the default SN2008@+ or the password you set.

MULTIPLE POSTERS

2Link posters into one display

Use this section only when you want one picture to run across several posters. For a single poster or the video wall, skip to Section 3. First connect to the FIRST poster in the row (Section 1), then follow these steps.

WIRING ORDER

You must wire the posters in order, starting from the left and moving to the right. The From left setting matches this wiring. See the Video Wall setup instructions for how to physically connect and build the wall.

Open Screen Management

On the home screen, tap Screen Management.

Open Multi-Screen Mosaic

This is the Screen Management menu. Scroll down and tap Multi-Screen Mosaic.

Turn on Multi-Screen Mosaic

Turn the Multi-Screen Mosaic switch on. The on-screen notes explain the rules: all posters must be the same size, they must be connected in order by HDMI cable, and up to 8 can be linked. You only set up the starting poster.

Set the direction

Set Mosaic Orientation. Choose From left if the starting poster is on the left end of the row (most common), or From right if it is on the right end.

Set Mosaic By to Quantity

Set Mosaic By to Quantity. This lets you simply enter how many posters are in the row.

Enter the number of posters

In Screens for Mosaic, enter the number of posters (for example, 4), then tap OK.

Now build and publish your content to this starting poster (Section 3). Keep the solution at the poster's own resolution of 344 x 1032. The software fits your content across all the linked posters automatically after you publish.

LOAD CONTENT

3Add content and publish

Content stored on a display is called a Solution. A Solution is basically a slideshow of one or more videos and images that the display cycles through. It plays on its own, and you can store several and switch between them at any time.

Tip: build your videos and images at the display's native pixel size (see the table on page 1) so nothing looks stretched. Posters are tall, 344 wide by 1032 high, so design portrait, not landscape.

Open Solution Management

On the home screen, tap Solution Management.

Create a New Solution

Tap New Solution.

Name it and confirm the size

Tap the pencil icon to give the solution a name you will recognize later. The Solution Resolution fills in automatically from the display you are connected to, for example 344 x 1032 for a poster. Leave it as it is and tap OK. When posters are linked, keep this same resolution. The software fits your content across the combined posters automatically after you publish.

Add media

In the editor, tap Media on the bottom toolbar to add a video or image. Your file must be saved in your phone's Photos, not the Files app.

Pick your file

Choose the Image or Video tab, then tap the file you want to use.

Build the slideshow and fit it

Your media appears on the canvas. To make a slideshow, tap the plus button to add more videos or images. Set Scale to Fit Screen so it fills the display.

Publish to the display

Tap the paper airplane icon at the top right to publish. It sends over Wi-Fi and can take a little time for large videos. When it finishes, the content plays on the display. Tap the back arrow to return to the menu.

SWITCH CONTENT

4Switch between saved content

Because solutions are stored on the display, you can load several in advance and switch between them instantly, with no need to rebuild.

Open Playback Control

On the home screen, tap Playback Control.

Pick a solution to play

In the Solution List, tap any solution to play it right away. The one currently showing is marked Playing. Use Change Device at the top right to switch to a different display.

LIVE SOURCE

5Display with HDMI input

The primary poster in the video wall has an HDMI input on the back. This lets you show a live source, such as a laptop, straight on the wall.

Preset to HDMI preferred

The video source is already set to HDMI preferred (found under Screen Management, Video Source). You do not need to change this. It means the wall shows an HDMI signal whenever one is plugged in.

With an HDMI cable plugged into the HDMI Input on the back of the primary poster, the video wall shows the HDMI source, for example a laptop presentation or a movie. With no HDMI plugged in, the wall plays the last solution that was loaded onto its drive. This makes it easy to switch between live presentations and your saved content.

BRIGHTNESS

6Adjust the brightness

Depending on the room, the display may need to be dimmed or brightened for the best look.

Open Brightness

Tap Screen Management on the home screen, then tap Brightness at the top of the menu.

Set the level

Choose Manual and drag the slider to the level you want, or use the minus and plus buttons. Choose Smart for automatic day and night adjustment when a light sensor is fitted.

ORGANIZE

7Name a display

With several posters on site, a clear name for each one makes setup much easier.

Rename the display

On the Devices screen, tap the three dots next to the display, choose Change Device Name, type a name such as Poster Number 1, and tap Save.

QUICK REFERENCE

If something is off

Display not in the app

Confirm you joined its AP Wi-Fi, then refresh. Remember only one phone can connect at a time.

Cannot see the poster's Wi-Fi

Another phone is probably still connected to it. Make sure nobody else is connected. Turning Auto-Join off prevents this.

Content did not change

You edited but did not publish. Publish again and wait for it to finish.

Picture looks stretched

The solution size does not match the display. Rebuild the solution at the correct pixel size.

A video will not add

It must be in your phone's Photos, not the Files app. Move it to Photos first, then add it.

Posters out of order

Mosaic follows the HDMI chain order and the From left or From right setting. Recheck the cable order and the orientation.
