BEFORE YOU START

Your LED reception desk

The LitUp reception desk is a curved LED front desk that ships in a rolling flight case. It runs on a NovaStar Taurus controller and is programmed from your phone with the free ViPlex Handy app. This guide covers setting the desk up and loading content onto it. You never program the controller directly. You send everything to it from your phone.

Build your content at 1032 x 516, the desk's native size, so nothing looks stretched. The desk is a wide, short display, so design horizontally with generous margins around logos and text.

What you need

  • The 10 ft main power cord (blue connector to the desk's control box, standard plug to a wall outlet).
  • An iPhone or Android phone.
  • The free ViPlex Handy app by NovaStar, from the App Store or Google Play.
  • The Wi-Fi label on the control box, which lists the WiFi Name and WiFi Password.

HANDLE WITH CARE

Use two people to move the desk and lift or roll it by the frame, never by the LED surface. Lock the caster brakes before use. The surface is GOB protected, so clean it gently with a dry or lightly damp microfiber cloth and never press hard on it.

SET UP

1Assemble and place the desk

Setup is quick: unpack and position the desk, connect power at the control box, and switch it on.

Unpack and position the desk
01

Unpack and position the desk

Open the flight case by lifting off the top cover and laying down the ramp. Move the desk out. Use two people and handle it by the frame, never by the LED surface. Roll the desk into place, then lock the caster brakes so it cannot move.

Find the control box
02

Find the control box

The control box is mounted under the desk, in the center compartment. This is where power, data, and the on and off switches are located.

Connect power and switch on
03

Connect power and switch on

Plug the blue power connector into POWER IN at the top left of the control box. Then turn the desk on with the on and off switch on the left side of the box. The desk boots and plays the last content loaded on it. If the screen is blank, load content using the programming steps that follow.

Good to know: the control box also has an HDMI IN port for showing a live source such as a laptop, plus Ethernet, USB, and audio out.

STEP BY STEP

2Connect to the desk

WRITE IT DOWN

The app will prompt you to change the password the first time you connect. If you change it, write the new password down and keep it somewhere safe. Recovering a lost password on a display is not a simple process, so do not lose it.

Find the Wi-Fi label
01

Find the Wi-Fi label

Look on the control box under the desk or in the drawer for the printed label. It lists the WiFi Name and WiFi Password for the desk. Use the values printed on your own desk's label; the example shown here is from another unit.

Join the desk's Wi-Fi
02

Join the desk's Wi-Fi

On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings. Connect to the network that matches the WiFi Name on the label, then enter the WiFi Password from the label. The default password is SN2008@+. It will show No Internet Connection, which is normal. You are joining the desk's own signal, not the internet.

Open ViPlex Handy
03

Open ViPlex Handy

Open the ViPlex Handy app. If you do not have it yet, download it from the App Store or Google Play.

Connect to the desk
04

Connect to the desk

On the Devices screen, find the desk (listed as Taurus plus its number, with its model and pixel size) and tap it to connect. A blue checkmark and the name at the top confirm you are connected. If it asks for a password, enter the default SN2008@+ or the password you set. The example here shows a poster at 344 x 1032. Your desk will show 1032 x 516.

LOAD CONTENT

3Add content and publish

Content stored on the desk is called a Solution. A Solution is basically a slideshow of one or more videos and images that the desk cycles through. It plays on its own, and you can store several and switch between them at any time.

Open Solution Management
01

Open Solution Management

On the home screen, tap Solution Management.

Create a New Solution
02

Create a New Solution

Tap New Solution.

Name it and confirm the size
03

Name it and confirm the size

Tap the pencil icon to give the solution a name you will recognize later. The Solution Resolution fills in automatically from the desk, which is 1032 x 516. Leave it as it is and tap OK.

Add media
04

Add media

In the editor, tap Media on the bottom toolbar to add a video or image. Your file must be saved in your phone's Photos, not the Files app.

Pick your file
05

Pick your file

Choose the Image or Video tab, then tap the file you want to use.

Build the slideshow and fit it
06

Build the slideshow and fit it

Your media appears on the canvas. To make a slideshow, tap the plus button to add more videos or images. Set Scale to Fit Screen so it fills the desk.

Publish to the desk
07

Publish to the desk

Tap the paper airplane icon at the top right to publish. It sends over Wi-Fi and can take a little time for large videos. When it finishes, the content plays on the desk. Tap the back arrow to return to the menu.

Design tip: build content at 1032 x 516. The desk is wide and short, so keep logos and text centered with room around them, since the surface is curved.

SWITCH CONTENT

4Switch between saved content

Because solutions are stored on the desk, you can load several in advance and switch between them instantly, with no need to rebuild.

Open Playback Control
01

Open Playback Control

On the home screen, tap Playback Control.

Pick a solution to play
02

Pick a solution to play

In the Solution List, tap any solution to play it right away. The one currently showing is marked Playing. Use Change Device at the top right to switch to another display.

LIVE SOURCE

5Display with HDMI input

The control box under the desk has an HDMI IN port. This lets you show a live source, such as a laptop, straight on the desk.

Set to HDMI preferred
01

Set to HDMI preferred

Set the video source to HDMI preferred, found under Screen Management, Video Source. On many units this is already set. It means the desk shows an HDMI signal whenever one is plugged in.

With an HDMI cable plugged into the HDMI IN port on the control box, the desk shows the HDMI source, for example a laptop presentation or a movie. With no HDMI plugged in, the desk plays the last solution loaded on it. This makes it easy to switch between live presentations and your saved content.

BRIGHTNESS

6Adjust the brightness

Depending on the room, the desk may need to be dimmed or brightened for the best look.

Open Brightness
01

Open Brightness

Tap Screen Management on the home screen, then tap Brightness at the top of the menu.

Set the level
02

Set the level

Choose Manual and drag the slider to the level you want, or use the minus and plus buttons. Choose Smart for automatic day and night adjustment when a light sensor is fitted.

ORGANIZE

7Name the desk

A clear name makes the desk easy to find in the app, especially when other LitUp displays are nearby.

Rename the desk
01

Rename the desk

On the Devices screen, tap the three dots next to the desk, choose Change Device Name, type a name such as Reception Desk, and tap Save.

QUICK REFERENCE

If something is off

Desk not in the app

Confirm you joined its AP Wi-Fi, then refresh. Remember only one phone can connect at a time.

Cannot see the desk's Wi-Fi

Another phone is probably still connected to it. Make sure nobody else is connected. Turning Auto-Join off prevents this.

Content did not change

You edited but did not publish. Publish again and wait for it to finish.

Picture looks stretched

The solution size does not match the desk. Rebuild the solution at 1032 x 516.

A video will not add

It must be in your phone's Photos, not the Files app. Move it to Photos first, then add it.

Screen is blank

Check power and that the desk is switched on, then load a solution using the content steps. If it stays blank, use the front maintenance panel to check the controller connections.
